Auburn Fire Fighters Children's Fund

Auburn Fire Fighter Children's Fund

The Auburn Fire Fighters Children's Fund supports many children throughout the greater Auburn area by donating thousands of dollars every year. The Children’s Fund allows Local 797 to use the money that has been raised, donated, and collected in a variety of different ways to give the money back to the community that they protect.  Several charitable ways that the fund is put to use goes into school scholarships, Park & Rec. sport teams, being the main sponsor for the Greater LA Triple Crown Series, “Truck load of Christmas”, “Make-a-Wish” and for the past two years The Dempsey Challenge Positive Tracks Kid’s Fun Run.

Community Sponsorships

The Auburn Fire Fighters Children's Fund is also responsible for (through a joint purchase with the Auburn Police Patrol and Detectives Union) purchasing new score boards at the Garfield Road Little League Fields.  The fund also sponsors at least one boy’s and girl’s team for each age group of every sport for each season throughout the community.

Sponsors of:

The Auburn firefighter’s Local 797 has been a major sponsor of the Greater L/A Triple Crown 5K, which consist of the Ymca Fit Fest, Emily’s Run and L-A Bridge Run for well over 10 years.  All of the proceeds that are generated from the Triple Crown are split between the YMCA, Fletcher Foundation and the Bridge Run Foundation.

The Local 797 Children’s Fund happens to be the major sponsor for the Kids Fun Run.   The firemen are an essential part for the Fun Run not only providing the needing funding in the race but also giving the needed support.  On-duty personal cheer on the young racers, distribute medals and other awards to all of the children that participated in the fun run.  After the run, the firefighters give the children an opportunity to cool off underneath Tower-1 as the firefighter’s spray water on them.

Truck Load of Christmas:

Every year for the past three years the Local 797 comes together to help children that need a little bit of Santa’s help and spirit.  This project is responsible for delivering Christmas presents to the children whom are sadly less fortunate.  Since 2007, Auburn’s Fire Fighters have helped more than a hundred families to stuff underneath their tree with presents so that their children have something to open Christmas morning.  The City of Auburn notifies the firemen of the less fortunate local Auburn families. Afterward, the men go out to local businesses to personally shop for the children.  Once the gifts are purchased and wrapped, Santa and his little fireman friends than deliver the gifts to the children by means of a fire truck.  Each year, essentially more than 25 children get not only a personal visit from Santa but are also delivered an extra bit of holiday cheer.

The Make-A-Wish foundation is the newest event that the Auburn Fire Fighter’s sponsor. In 2010 Craig Bouchard, Jimmy Hart and Mitch Sperry presented a full pledge to the foundation.  The check was written for six thousand dollars that will be used to make a young girls dream come true in an unforgettable trip to Disney World.

.

Through the hard work of the fire fighters, the graciousness of the public, as well as the support of hundreds, the Auburn Fire Fighter’s Local 797 will continue to donate their time to the community.  Once again, this is why Auburn Fire Fighter’s are different from the rest and excel in being an example of more reasons as to why a fire department is so important to the city.

The 2012 Dempsey Challenge will once again have a "super hero" theme, encouraging children and their families to come dressed as their favorite comic book super hero or their own unique creation on Saturday, October 13th for the Auburn Firefighters Local 797 Positive Tracks Kids' Fun Run. Be a "hero" and join in the fight against cancer!

Every year firefighters from around the North East gather for a day of fun competition to raise money for the Maine Handicapped Ski Association.  Auburn Firefighters came in first place in the Ski Race.  This year the event raised over 300,000 dollars for the charity.

Every year Auburn Firefighters I.A.F.F. Local 797 hold a Firefighter's Ball to help raise money for the Firefighter's Childrens Fund.  This past March the Ball was held at the Hilton Garden Inn.  The event was sold out and raised thousands of dollars to benifit local scholarships and children's programs.  For pictures of the Auburn Fire Fighters Ball click on the "photo gallery" button on the top of the screen.
